Project Overview

Following an emergency loss of bulk water storage in South East Water's network, Enisca Browne was appointed to rapidly design and construct a new 24ML/D high lift pumping station. Additionally, a temporary water treatment works was developed using modular construction to provide immediate support to the network. The £4.5 million project required urgent delivery to restore network resilience and maintain water supply security.

The high lift pumping station was built within a redundant raw water pumping station, requiring extensive internal refurbishment. The installation included new high lift pumps, MCCs, process instrumentation, and a 20m³ surge vessel system. The temporary water treatment works was designed for rapid deployment and featured containerised treatment units connected by above-ground MDPE pipework, enabling quick restoration of treatment capacity.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Urgent Delivery Requirements

The emergency nature of the project required innovative construction methods. By utilising modular, off-site fabrication, Enisca Browne drastically reduced installation time while maintaining quality standards and ensuring rapid restoration of network capacity.

Existing Structure Adaptation

Converting a redundant raw water pumping station for new purposes presented technical challenges. Through smart engineering and careful assessment of the existing structure, the team successfully repurposed the facility, minimising disruption and construction costs.

Security Compliance

Working on critical water infrastructure required adherence to stringent security standards. The completed works were fully compliant with SEMD security standards, ensuring the protection of essential water supply assets.

Project Outcomes

Through rapid response capabilities, innovative construction methods, and technical expertise, Enisca Browne successfully delivered critical water infrastructure in record time. The completed works restored network resilience and ensured secure water supply for South East Water's customers. By reusing existing structures and employing modular construction techniques, the project minimised environmental impact while maximising efficiency, demonstrating Enisca Browne's capability in delivering emergency infrastructure solutions that meet immediate needs while providing long-term value.
