Delivering sustainable water infrastructure in environmentally sensitive areas
deep borehole successfully drilled and commissioned
complaints received from local residents
under-river horizontal directional drill completed
Enisca Browne delivered two complex infrastructure projects: the Runleywood Borehole for Affinity Water and a pumping station at Walthamstow Wetlands for Thames Water. Both required careful planning in sensitive environments to minimise disruption and meet strict standards.
At Runleywood, a 320m borehole was drilled on a constrained residential site. At Walthamstow, the team built a new pumping station with a rising main, two pipe bridges, and a 100m under-river directional drill to support long-term operations.
Residential Proximity
Working in a dense urban area, Enisca Browne used noise barriers, acoustic shielding, and real-time monitoring to minimise disturbance to nearby residents during drilling.
Environmental Sensitivity
At Walthamstow Wetlands, the team protected habitats by collaborating with Thames Water and the London Wildlife Trust, using specialist drilling fluids and responsible waste management.
Sustainable Practices
Solar-powered facilities, EV charging, and material reuse helped reduce the project’s carbon footprint, reflecting Enisca Browne’s commitment to sustainable construction.
Technical expertise, environmental awareness, and community-focused planning enabled Enisca Browne to deliver critical infrastructure projects with minimal disruption to local communities and natural habitats.
Sustainable water abstraction capabilities were achieved, enhancing the long-term viability of the water supply.
Improved operational resilience was built into the water networks, ensuring more reliable service delivery.
The projects set new benchmarks for infrastructure delivery in environmentally sensitive locations.
Water Treatment Works Upgrade at Arlington
Enisca Browne was appointed by South East Water to deliver a £8.25 million upgrade at Arlington Water Treatment Works, modernising infrastructure and improving efficiency at the 1972-built facility.
Pumping Station & Treatment Emergency Response at Butler WTW
Following an emergency loss of bulk water storage in South East Water's network, Enisca Browne was appointed to rapidly design and construct a new 24ML/D high lift pumping station.
